EXPERIENCE THE THRILL AND MAGIC OF AN AFRICAN SAFARI
The word safari came into common use in the 19th century and it means ’long journey’ in Swahili. Today, an African safari has come to mean a tour to see some of the great animals that live out their lives on the wide African plains.
We have all seen the TV documentaries – usually featuring David Attenborough – following vast herds of wildebeests as the make the Great Migration from the Serengeti to the Masai mara, or perhaps watched as a pack of lions hunt zebras in the Ngorongoro Crater. But watching this on television is one thing and it is entirely different to experience the real thing.
The two undisputed top African safari countries are Kenya and Tanzania. Between them these two countries offer an incredible wealth of experiences and are rich in game life. South Africa comes a close third, with its famed Kruger National Park, and other countries, notably Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia also offer incredible safari experiences.
Africa wildlife can be summed up in one word: diverse. There are literally hundreds of mammal species and thousands of types of bird. But most people going on a safari are keen to set eyes on the so-called Big 5.
What are the Big 5?
The Big 5 are the five game species favoured by hunters because they were difficult to hunt on foot and comprise the following:
Lions
African elephants
Black rhinos
Cape buffalos
Leopards
We at Albatros Travel Africa only hunt these animals with our cameras, and a safari holiday with us means you’ll be benefitting from the extensive knowledge of wildlife retained by our fully trained guides.
