Itinerary

Day 1 Johannesburg – Entabeni Private Game Reserve: Afternoon Safari
hangklip-mountain-lodge

Arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. On arrival you will be met and assisted by a Representative of Albatros Travel.

We will depart from Johannesburg via Pretoria for an orientation tour. Pretoria is the Administrative Capital of South Africa and is also commonly known as the Jacaranda City, after the beautiful purple blossom trees that line the streets. The city is the cultural centre of the country, with many important historical buildings and sites, as well as fascinating museums. The imposing Union Buildings are the official seat of government and house the President’s office in Gauteng. Enjoy lunch at the famous Harries Pancakes Restaurant.

Continue to Entabeni Game Reserve, arriving in the afternoon for check in at Hanglip Mountain Lodge. The afternoon will be at leisure before you head out on your first African game safari.  Just before sunset the game ranger will stop the vehicle and drinks will be served, which you can enjoy while watching the sun set over the distant mountains. As darkness descends you will look out for nocturnal animals using a large spotlight to scan the landscape. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Note: This tour is available as a Self Drive, Seat-in-Coach or Group tour.  Please make sure to arrive to Johannesburg in the morning if you want to start the tour the same day. For arrivals later than 13h00 an extra over night will be needed. The tour starts with a meet & greet at O. R. Tambo Airport

The rest of the day will be spent at leisure; you can relax at the Lodge’s swimming pool or maybe indulge in an optional spa treatment. In the afternoon high tea is served before you depart on another evening game drive, hopefully spotting the animals that eluded you the previous day.

Return to the lodge for a Boma Dinner in the Pedi Village.

After breakfast we say farewell to the staff of Hanglip Mountain Lodge and head towards Johannesburg. Upon arrival in the city you will do a tour of Soweto.

Soweto is the largest black urban settlement in South Africa, with over 2 million residents. Created in the 1930s, Soweto grew in the 1950s after the Apartheid government’s Group Areas Act forced all African citizens out of the inner city and into the areas allocated to them. Being the centre of the struggle against this government and similar laws, Soweto has a rich political history.   Some of the highlights of this tour will be a visit to the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum, commemorating the student uprisings of the 1970s; and Vilikazi Street, which has the houses of 2 Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
