Itinerary

Day 1 - Arusha to Tarangire National Park
tsllodge_overview

On this group tour you will be travelling with a small group of other travellers, raning in number from 2 to 10. If you'd like to go on the tour by yourselves just contact one of our travel advisors and they will arrange a quote based on a private tour.

Your holiday begins in Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania, from where you will be driven to Tarangire National Park - a journey of around 2 hours. This baobab-dotted park hosts the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem and is a smorgasbord for predators, making it a superb place to get attuned to life on safari.

Home for the night is the comfortable Tarangire Sopa Lodge, set in a lush green setting surrounded by trees. You will arrive just in time for lunch and will be shown to your spacious and well-appointed rooms, each with an en suite bathrooom and large bed.

Bird-lovers might want to keep an eye open for screeching flocks of the dazzlingly colourful yellow-collared lovebird, and the somewhat drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling – all endemic to the dry savannah of north-central Tanzania.

After lunch we'll head out into the park on our first game drive, and you'll get to appreciate just how much wildlife there is to see in Tarangire.

Day 2 - Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park

Leaving Tarangire behind, we will drive to Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park the Serengeti.

A World Heritage Site, the Serengeti is renowned for its annual Great Migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles join the wildebeests' quest for fresh grazing lands. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalos, smaller groups of elephants and giraffes, and thousands upon thousands of elands, topis, kongonis, impalas and Grant’s gazelles can all be seen.

You will be staying at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge, which lies nestled in acacia woodland and has all the modern comforts you would expect from a safari lodge, including a swimming pool, excellent rooms and a great dining room.

Day 3 - Serengeti National Park
lion-in-tree

There’s nothing like an early morning start for allowing you to experience one of the most ultimate game viewing sessions. After a hot cup of tea or coffee you will soon be wide-awake as you head out to watch the wildlife at its most active time. The big cats love to make appearances in the morning, while the strengthening light makes photographing herds of animals a photographer’s dream.

For something a bit different we can arrange an early morning balloon safari over the Serengeti. From its basket you can view the large herds of animals and watch the sun rise over Tanzania's seemingly endless plains, and finish off this relaxing journey with a delicious champagne breakfast on the ground.

Note: the balloon safari is an optional extra. See pricing information for details.

Today we will say goodbye to the enchanting Serengeti only to be presented with another natural wonder - the Ngorongoro Crater. This incredible formation is part of the larger Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8,300 square kilometres. The actual crater is 260 square kilometres across and 620m deep.

Your accommodation consists of the fabulous Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, perched atop the rim of the crater. The lodge boasts a fantastic location, friendly staff and great facilities - and the views from here can only be described as spectacular.

To experience the crater without the crowds it is best to rise early for your full day's game drive. Reaching the crater floor as the sun begins to rise, you will be amazed at the natural spectacle surrounding you.

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to about 25,000 animals and is one of the last places in Tanzania where the Big Five can be seen. The conservation area is an International Biosphere Reserve. Additionally and is unique because it is multi-use  - where the animals and environment are protected but the Maasai are allowed to live and continue their pastoral lifestyle.

You can expect to see many different kinds of animal today so don't forget to bring plenty of memory chips for your camera.
