etosha-national-park-landscape

The adventure starts with you being collected from your hotel at 12h00 (in the summer) or 13h00 (during the winter months) for the 400km road trip to Etosha National park.

At Otjiwarongo, which is about half-way, there will be a stop for refreshments before you continue north, arriving just in time for a fabulous Namibian sunset. Your accommodation will be a lodge near the national park and, upon your arrival you will be able to enjoy a refreshing sundowner. Afterwards, an authentic Namibian meal will be prepared by the guide.

Tonight you will enjoy a good night’s rest in the beauty and solitude of the Namibian bush.

*Please note, due to the early departure on the first day an optional pre-tour night in Windhoek is available (Extended 8 Day Tour)

Day 2 Wednesday - Etosha National Park
etosha-national-park-elephants

Today you will depart at sunrise on a game drive - this is the best time of the day to see the animals. The game drive will continue until mid-morning. The morning drive across the park is great fun and will take in many waterholes. Though you will be looking out mainly for the Big 4 (there are no buffalo in Etosha National Park), spotting and naming the huge variety of game roaming the plains is an exciting passtime.

The tour continues to Halali, the central camp in the park where the guide will prepare a delicious lunch. You have time to take a dip in the pool, or rest at the waterhole. Then it's on to the mighty Etosha Pan, to marvel at the incredible size of the saltpan, as well as its residents.

The tour goes back to Okaukuejo, stopping at some well-known waterholes en route, before leaving the park just before sunset. The evening meal will be prepared by the guide.

Included meals:
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Lodging:
Lodge close to Etosha National Park
Day 3 Thursday - Etosha National Park to Swakopmund

Another early morning game drive (±3 hours) inside the park, searching for all the animals on your ‘must see’ list that you didn’t have a chance to see yesterday.

We leave Etosha National Park via Outjo and Omaruru and you will have a delicious roadside lunch presented by your guide before your arrival in Swakopmund in the early afternoon.

Swakopmund is a picturesque and friendly coastal town offering lovely seaside vistas. Various art cafes, curio shops and attractive side-walk cafes are waiting to be explored and the town is also the adrenaline hub of Namibia with numerous fun-filled activities to choose from. Your stay here will be at the Dunedin Star hotel - a comfortable and friendly little guesthouse just a short walk from the town centre.

Driving via the Kuiseb and Ghaub passes, you will arrive at the amazing Desert Camp at the gateway to Sossusvlei around mid-afternoon. After checking in and refreshing, you can take a walk to a nearby hill to enjoy the magical colours of sunset in the Namib Desert.

The swimming pool and bar offer the perfect spots to take it easy and wind down in anticipation of the amazing landscape of Sossusvlei.

Day 5 Saturday - Sossusvlei
namibia-sossusvlei

Today you will rise early and depart for the dunes at Sossusvlei, which are just 3km away. The early departure from camp ensures you will arrive in time to enjoy the early morning light on the dunes. This is one of the most photographed places in Africa - and with good reason. The ethereal beauty of the dunes defies description. Make sure you bring your camera!

The 4x4 shuttle drives straight into the Sossusvlei area where you can explore some of the world’s highest dunes before stopping at Dead Vlei, with its skeletal camel thorn trees.

To return, you can choose between walking or taking the dune shuttle, making a stop at (and climbing if desired) the famous Dune 45 - the highest dune of them all. Return to Sesriem and visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the only constant sources of water in the area. You will arrive back at the camp in the late afternoon in time to watch the sun set over the desert and perhaps take some more pictures - if there is any room left on your camera's memory chip!
