Itinerary

Day 1 Windhoek: Arrival
windhoek gardens

Arrive at Windhoek International airport, meet & greet with an Albatros representative for travel info and assistance with the collection of your rental car. Drive to your guesthouse close to the city centre in Windhoek, The Villa Verdi, with a lush green garden, comfortable rooms individually decorated in ethnic styles, a large swimming pool and views of the Auas mountains. Relax after the long hours of travel or spend the day out shopping in the city. There are also many optional activities available from the Albatros Travel Service and Excursion Desk.

Spend your evening at one of Windhoek’s best known restaurants, Joe’s Beer House, famous for its wide variety of game meats available throughout the year.

Day 2 & 3 Kalahari
Namib Park 02

From Windhoek drive South via Rehoboth, heading towards the Kalahari with its tints of orange decorating the sand dunes. Enjoy two nights under the starry African skies.  The lodge offers true Namibian hospitality and is situated in the heart of the Kalahari with the red sand of the dunes providing a picturesque backdrop. Green acacias and yellow grasses growing from the red sand add a splash of colour to the landscape.

Antelope, springbok, gemsbok and ostrich can be found roaming the desert, while jackal, hare and porcupine can also be seen. The Kori Bustard, a large bird native to Africa, is found in this area as well as large colonies of weaver birds. The lodge offers a range of activities to choose from including donkey cart rides, guided nature drives or sun-downer drives.

Driving time: Approximately 3 hour drive from Windhoek International Airport to Anib Lodge along the B 1 and C20. The distance is about 300 km

Day 4 & 5 Fish River Canyon
fish-river-canyon

Head further south and spend two nights at the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world, second only to the Grand Canyon. Explore the canyon from the viewpoint or on foot on one of the many short hiking trails.

The Canon Roadhouse is located 25km from the Fish River Canyon, inside the private Gondwana Canyon Park, and only 20 kms from the main viewpoint of the Fish River Canyon, making it an ideal location from which to explore this natural wonder. Feast on the delicious home grown cuisine of the lodge and enjoy some of the interesting features including the old car parts found in the surrounding area, as well as antiques such as the age old gas burning stove. The lodge boasts a large swimming pool and sun-deck surrounded by indigenous succulent plants such as the hoodia and various aloe plants, offering you a wonderful area in which to relax after an exciting day.

Driving time: Approximately 5 hour drive from Mariental to Fish River Canyon travelling along the B, B4, C12, and C37. The distance is about 470 km

Day 6 Helmeringhausen

The Hotel is part of the historic 10,000 ha Farm Helmeringhausen. Arriving at the lodge after a long day of driving through the desert you can dive into the swimming pool, or have a drink at the outdoor beer and coffee garden.

Driving time: Approximately 4 hour drive from Fish River Canyon to Helmeringhausen travelling along the C12, B4 and C14. The distance is about 360 km

Day 7 & 8 Namib Desert: Sossusvlei
sossusvlei

Depart from Helmeringhausen and drive deeper into the desert to spend two nights close to Sossusvlei. The magical colors of the red and orange tinted sand dunes will leave you in awe especially during sunrise and sunset, so do not miss the chance to climb the dunes and look at the horizon from these majestic natural heights.

Namib Desert Lodge is situated just 60 km north of Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei, and only 5 kms from the main road. It is located in the Gondwana Namib Park, and borders Namib Naukluft Park, the largest conservation area in Namibia.

In the morning rise early and do an excursion into the heart of Sossusvlei, also visiting Dead Vlei and the nearby Sesriem Canyon. Afterwards, retire to the swimming pool of the lodge to cool off and breathe in the desert air.

Day 9 & 10 Swakopmund
swakopmund-houses

Today your journey continues to Swakopmund, Namibia’s well known holiday resort; a bustling coastal town with lively sidewalk cafes and various shops to explore. Check into your guesthouse, an intimate and sophisticated family-run boutique guesthouse offering comfortable accommodation in a quiet, up market neighborhood a few minutes' walk from the sea and a short drive from the town centre.  Take part in the numerous activities Swakopmund has to offer, or simply walk along the beach, taking in the mystical air of the desert next to the ocean shore with magical colorful sunsets.

Driving time: Approximately 5 hour drive from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund travelling along the C14. The distance is about 365 km

Day 11 & 12 Etosha National Park

You can enjoy game viewing on a drive from Okaukuejo until Halali where you can have lunch before returning to Okaukuejo’s gate by sunset.
