Itinerary

Day 1 - Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
plantation_lodge_3

This 5 Star Group Tour means you will be travelling as part of a small group ranging in size from a minimum of two to a maximum of ten and, of course, all accommodation is individual and private.

Your tour will begin with lunch at the Arusha Hotel, in the heart of Arusha town. After this we will drive to Lake Manyara National Park.

You will arrive at Plantation Lodge in the late afternoon. The lodge is set among the soft, red-brown hills in the vast silence of East Africa and each individually furnished room and suite blends harmoniously with the flowering garden outside. Everywhere you look you can see and feel the personal atmosphere of this boutique lodge, with furnishings that were selected with great attention to detail.

Lake Manyara National Park is a narrow strip running between the Gregory Rift to the west and Lake Manyara, an alkaline soda-lake famous for its flamingo population, to the east. The park encompasses three distinct habitats: a swampy groundwater forest, open floodplains and woodlands of acacia trees. Large buffalo, zebra and wildebeest herds graze on the grassy plains, as do giraffes and other animals. The thin belt of acacia woodland is the favoured haunt of Manyara's legendary tree-climbing lions and the impressively tusked elephants. Game drives in this park never disappoint and you will be enchanted by the diversity of wildlife and the scenery.

Plantation Lodge’s exceptional service leaves no wish unfulfilled. You will start off the evening with a refreshing sunset cocktail followed by some fine intercontinental cuisine.

Day 2 - Ngorongoro Crater

To experience the crater without the crowds it is a good idea to rise early for your half-day game drive. Reaching the crater floor as the sun begins to rise you will be amazed by the natural beauty that surrounds you.

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to about 25,000 animals and is one of the last places in Tanzania where the Big Five can all be seen. The wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a World Heritage Site and also an International Biosphere Reserve. Additionally, it is unique because it is a multi-use conservation area - where the animals and environment are protected but the Maasai are allowed to continue their pastoral lifestyle.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the shore of one of the crater’s lakes and watch as elephants quench their thirst. We will then return to the beautiful surroundings of Plantation Lodge to relax and enjoy a well-earned feast.

Full board - breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 3 - Karatu (Ngorongoro) to Serengeti National Park
2248458716

Leaving the spectacular Ngorongoro behind us we will drive to the Serengeti, Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a World Heritage Site. It is here that the Great Migration takes place, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeests' epic search for fresh grazing.

Yet even when the Migration is quiet, the Serengeti arguably offers the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa. Great herds of buffalo and smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, as well as thousands upon thousands of elands, topis, kongonis, impalas and Grant’s gazelles are all visible as we cruise around the park with our cameras and binoculars at the ready.

After taking lunch at scenic picnic spot we will proceed to Soroi Serengeti Lodge, your accommodation for the night. This is one of the newer luxury properties in the Serengeti, set high on a natural plateau with incredible views of the endless plains.

Each of the 17 chalets offers spectacular views across the Musabi plains of the Serengeti, and features lovely interiors with stand alone bath and outside shower. Here you can laze in the infinity pool after a day’s game viewing and enjoy the tantalising meals served up by the international chefs.

Day 4 - Serengeti National Park

There’s nothing like an early morning start for allowing you to experience one of the ultimate game viewing experiences. After a hot cup of tea or coffee you will soon be wide-awake as you watch the wildlife at its most active time. The cat family loves to make appearances in the morning, while the early morning light makes the herds of wildlife a photographer’s dream.

For something completely different, we can arrange an early morning balloon safari over the Serengeti as an optional extra. Here you will view the  wildlife and watch the sun rise over the park’s expansive plains and finish off this relaxing journey with a lavish champagne breakfast.

After lunch at the camp we will return to the park's open plains in search of more wildlife close encounters. As the evening approaches and the light begins to fade you can enjoy a sundowner at a picturesque location in the park.
