Itinerary

Day 1 Johannesburg to Shiduli Private Game Lodge via Dullstroom
shiduli-entrance

Arrive at Johannesburg International O. R. Tambo Airport and you will drive via one of South Africa's most beautiful routes to have lunch in Dullstroom, one of the country’s famous trout fishing areas. Dullstroom dates back to the early 1880's and is associated with the Dutch Settlers who made their way to the place of "eternal mist". The village of Dullstroom is a charming little place situated in the heart of the Highlands Meander, one of Mpumalanga’s most beautiful areas, noted for its clear streams, lakes and breathtaking scenery. The drive from Johannesburg to Shiduli including a lunch stop in Dullstroom takes about 6 hours.

Later in the day you will arrive at your luxury lodge, Shiduli in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve. The hospitality and service levels provided by Shiduli Private Game Lodge are of an exceptional standard and it is guaranteed that guests leaves with wonderful memories of an unforgettable Safari.

Notes: Please make sure to arrive in Johannesburg in the morning, if you want to start the tour the same day. For arrivals later than 11h00 an extra over night will be needed. The tour starts with a meet & greet at O. R. Tambo Airport.  If you or your customers need pick-up elsewhere in Johannesburg, please make sure to let Albatros know!

Day 2 Karongwe Private Game Reserve: Safaris
shiduli-game-drive

Karongwe Private Game Reserve is situated in the Limpopo Province, east of the Drakensberg Mountains. This reserve is characterised by undulating terrain, interspersed with rocky outcrops.  The day is spent in the epitome of a real African safari in this beautiful wildlife sanctuary. Your ranger will take you on guided early morning and late afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles. Breakfast and dinner are served after your safaris, and lunch can be taken from midday onwards.

Day 3 The Panorama Route
blyde-river-canyon

Today you will spend most of the day on the beautiful Panorama Route, travelling along mountainous winding roads. The Panorama Route is best known for its cultural heritage and its dramatic landscapes. A major highlight of this region is the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world. This is the largest green canyon and is home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife and boasts some of the best views in South Africa.  Some of the other must-see highlights on this route are Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and several waterfalls. You will have the choice to either pass the old gold miner's town, Pilgrims Rest OR the cozy town of Graskop for lunch.

Day 4 Karongwe Private Game Reserve: Safaris
karongwe-lioness

This day offers another two exciting safari game drives. The African bushveld here is home to the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant) as well as a wide variety of other animals. Open vehicle game drives are ideal for game viewing. On the evening drive you can enjoy a sundowner while watching the sun set over the distant Drakensberg Mountains.

Game walks, where you experience the savannah on foot in the company of an experienced ranger, are also offered at Shiduli. During the day you can relax and cool off at the lovely pool or do some bird watching around the lodge. Optional Excursions are also offered - or play golf at the nearby Hans Merensky Golf Club.

Day 5 Kruger National Park: Safari Day
kruger-elephants

A full day devoted to safari adventures in South Africa’s famous Kruger National Park. This a huge park, with well engineered roads and trails, make it possible to get close to the game. You often see elephant, giraffe and various antelopes graze close to your vehicle, and it is not unusual that a pack of lion prevents free passage!

Kruger National Park is the land of baobabs, fever trees, knob thorns, marula and mopane trees underneath which you can find not only the Big Five, but the Little Five (buffalo weaver, elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, ant lion and rhino beetle), the birding Big Six (ground hornbill, kori bustard, lappet-faced vulture, martial eagle, pel’s fishing owl and saddle-bill stork) and boasts more mammal species than any other African Game Reserve.

Day 6 Visit Wildlife Conservation Projects
moholoholo-rhino

There are fortunately many people attempting to preserve Africa's wildlife and provide information about how this is best done. Our day is devoted to various wildlife projects. Amongst others, we visit Moholoholo, a project dealing with injured wildlife and birds, and later one of Africa's most renowned wildlife breeding projects.  Moholoholo is a haven for abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife from all over South Africa.

These animals are cared for and rehabilitated here and once healthy enough are re-introduced into their natural environments. Those that cannot be returned to the wild due to the extent of their injuries are looked after at the center and used to educate the visitors to Moholoholo.

Day 7 Karongwe Private Game Reserve: Safari, relaxation and Farewell Dinner
shiuli-pool

Your final day at Shiduli is set aside for safari game drives (or walks) in Karongwe and Optional Excursions.  Take advantage of the excellent photographic opportunities afforded by the game viewing here. A huge variety of trees and over 365 different bird species can also be seen. Shangaan trackers will accompany you on the game walks to share their broad knowledge and experience of the African Bush and possibly even give you a chance to see Cheetah while on foot.

In the evening, you will enjoy a great Farewell Dinner

Day 8 Shiduli to Johannesburg for onward travel via Pretoria
pretoria

Transfer to Johannesburg, en-route visit the neighbouring city of Pretoria. This city is the Administrative Capital of South Africa and is also commonly known as the Jacaranda City, after the beautiful purple blossom trees that line the streets. The city is the cultural centre of the country, with many important historical buildings and sites, as well as fascinating museums. The imposing Union Buildings are the official seat of government and house the President’s office in Gauteng. You will enjoy lunch in Pretoria after your tour.

Continue to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport for your onward travel.
