Itinerary

Days 1 to 5 - Selous Game Reserve
4

Your safari begins with a short flight from Dar es Salaam airport to Simbazi airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. On arrival you will be met by the Amara driver guides in their open safari vehicles and taken to the camp.

You will have four nights at the Amara Selous, which will allow you plenty of time to explore this amazing game reserve, famous for its large tusked elephants and being one of the best places to see the endangered African Wild Dogs.

You will be able to explore the Selous in the open safari vehicles driven by a professional driver guide. These open vehicles bring you closer to the wildlife. There is also the opportunity of going on a boat safari and seeing the hippos and crocodiles that make the river their home, as well as seeing the animals that come to the river to drink. You can also have a go at fishing for the large catfish or tiger fish.

For the more adventurous, you can go on a walking safari, guided by an armed ranger, here you will get a first hand experience of the African bush and see things that are often missed while in a vehicle.

Each day you will return to the comforts of the Amara Selous, where all your meals and drinks are catered for including a free massage for 2 and a private dinner on your veranda.

The Amara Selous is located at the heart of the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania, alongside the Ruaha river.

The Amara Selous represents the pinnacle of ultra-luxury boutique accommodation. Consisting of just 12 suites of 90sqm each, it offers the ultimate in relaxation and opulence while managing to balance its existence with its unspoiled surroundings.

Visitors also have an additional 40sqm of private outdoor space, with hot-water showers and welcoming rock plunge-pools in which you can relax to the accompaniment of the sounds of nearby wildlife.  Spa treatments and massage packages are available on request for that special treat.

Days 5 to 12 - Selous to Pemba Island

After your four night stay in the Selous Game Reserve you will be driven to the airstrip for your flight to Pemba Island.

Pemba is Zanzibar’s sister island, with white sandy beaches, gin-clear water and everything else you would expect from a tropical island setting.

On arrival you will be met by the Fundu Lagoon representative who will transfer you the short distance to the harbour. Here, the Fundu boat awaits you and you will be taken to the beautiful and tranquil Fundu Lagoon, located on a stunning beach on the south-west tip of the island.

At Fundu Lagoon you will have seven nights to enjoy the beautiful and tranquil surroundings. The resort is privately-owned and run and epitomises the term "shabby chic": luxurious, stylish and completely relaxed.  The Makuti (palm-frond)-thatched tented rooms and suites, all of which have views of the Indian Ocean, are accessed along wooden walkways and sandy paths, and the public areas are all open-sided with the same thatch roofing.  Guests have a choice of three bars, a superb restaurant, an infinity pool and a rejuvenating fusion spa.

Here you will be free to explore the nearby mangroves by canoe, relax on a sunset dhow cruise or, if you are feeling adventurous, take advantage of the diving, watersports and fishing facilities at the resort.

At the end of your stay you will be taken to the airstrip and connect with a schedule flight to Dar, in order to connect with your international flight home.
