Tour Information

Day 1: Windhoek – Etosha National Park – Overnight at Okaukuejo Campsite (Lunch & Dinner)

We will be collected from our guesthouse/hotels as 07:15 and brought to Chameleon Backpackers Lodge for the pre-departure talk and to meet the rest of the group. After the departure from Windhoek, we stop briefly at Otjiwarongo to gather some last-minute supplies before continuing to Etosha with a light lunch pack whilst “on the move”. We enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park visiting waterholes looking for predators as well as zebra, giraffe, elephant, rhino and many different species of antelope arriving at our camp just before sunset. We set up camp and whilst dinner is cooking, we have the chance to visit the floodlit waterhole. Dinner is prepared by our guide over an open fire and an early night is recommended.

Overnight at Okaukuejo Campsite, Etosha (Lunch & Dinner)

Day 2: Etosha National Park – Overnight at Okaukuejo Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

We start our first game drive at sunrise to catch the predators while they are still active, visiting many waterholes, making our way across the park where we enjoy breakfast at one of the (fenced) picnic spots within the park. We then continue our journey arriving at the Etosha Pan, a chance to get out of the vehicle, stretch legs and enjoy the vast expanse of the pan and take some awesome photos. After our visit to the pan, we head through to Halali, the central camp where we can take a dip in the pool, visit the Moringa waterhole and enjoy some lunch.  After lunch we begin our final game drive across the park, back to Okaukuejo calling into some well-known waterholes and returning to camp by sunset. Our last night camping in Etosha, and our last chance to enjoy the waterhole so a post dinner visit is highlight recommended.

Overnight at the Okaukuejo Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 3: Damaraland – Overnight at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

We enjoy an early morning breakfast and departure from Etosha is no later than 07h00. The route today takes us into the dramatic and beautiful scenery of Damaraland. We have the chance to meet the wonderful Herero, Himba & Damara ladies who sell their handmade arts and crafts to support their rural families. A light roadside lunch is served en-route in the shadow of Namibia’s tallest mountain, the Brandberg, and we can interact with some of the colourful local characters who live in this harsh environment.  On the drive down the Skeleton Coast we explore the remains of a small shipwreck. We arrive in Swakopmund late-afternoon which gives you time to explore this quaint seaside town on foot (depending on the season). After our day of meeting the Himba, Herero & Damara people, dinner tonight is a chance to get to know more about Namibia’s biggest tribe, the Owambo’s, and try some local Namibian delicacies in the township at Hafeni’s Traditional Restaurant. Overnight accommodation is in twin share rooms with en-suite bathroom.

Overnight at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 4: Skeleton Coast – Overnight at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge (Breakfast)

A full day today to enjoy all the optional activities that the Skeleton Coast has to offer. For the adrenaline junkies, this could be flying down a sand dune head first at 60km/hr, or sky diving over the desert, or for those that prefer something a bit calmer, it could be a living desert tour, kayaking with the seals, a dolphin cruise in Walvis Bay, or a stroll around the town enjoying the curio shops and café that Swakop is renowned for. Either way, enjoy the weekend at the coast and the chance to sleep in a real bed. Overnight in twin share rooms with en-suite bathroom with lunch and dinner at our own expense today.

Overnight at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge (Breakfast)

Day 5: Swakopmund – Overnight at Sesriem Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

A leisurely breakfast and departure from Swakopmund is around 8h30. We make our way south to the port town of Walvis Bay where we stop in at the lagoon, a great chance to meet the flamingos, and learn more about this important wetland site. We then drive through the Namib Desert via the Kuiseb Pass and Solitaire, arriving at our camp late afternoon and we can set up our tents and enjoy the sunset. Pool and bar available. Dinner prepared by our guide and an early night is recommended.

Overnight at Sesriem Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 6: Dune 45 – Sossusvlei – Overnight at Sesriem Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

A pre-dawn departure from camp this morning means that we can enjoy the dunes at first light whilst the temperatures are still cool. We drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes, making our first stop at the famous Dune 45, where we can climb to the top and enjoy the sunrise. On descent, enjoy some breakfast, before continuing on to the 2×4 parking (around 55kms) and taking a 4×4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei area to appreciate the beauty of this place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the region. We explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours before taking the 4×4 shuttle back to our vehicle. We return to Sesriem for lunch and a swim and late afternoon we visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the few permanent water sources in the area. Overnight camping, with dinner prepared by our guide.

Overnight at Sesriem Campsite (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
