AMENDED IMMIGRATION REGULATION PERTAINING TO TRAVELLING WITH MINORS
Foreign families that arrive in SA from visa-free countries will no longer need to carry birth certificates for minors. Foreign visitors from countries where a visa is required will need to submit a birth certificate when they apply for the visa; while South African minors will only need to carry a birth certificate if both parents’ names do not appear in their passports. Children who are not accompanied by both parents will still need to comply with special documentary requirements.
However, travelers are urged to carry these documents because they may be requested in certain instances.
POPULAR LIONS HEAD SPIRAL TRAIL CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE
South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the popular spiral trail up Lion’s Head in Cape Town will close for maintenance. The pending trail maintenance that will take place on Lions Head from 7 January to 15 February 2019. Signal Hill will remain open to the public as a viewing point.
A ‘LIVING MUSEUM’: THE AUTHENTIC BUSHMAN EXPERIENCE
The Khomani San are one of the oldest African tribes, and Boesmanrus in the Northern Cape’s Kalahari Desert, near the Kgalagadi National Park, is offering travellers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultures and traditions of the tribe. Called a ‘living museum’, the authentic Bushman experience was created by local tourism business owner, Barbara Raats, whose heritage lies in the Khomani San, and it is from her culture that Raats developed this experience.
BLUE TRAIN ADDS AN OBSERVATION CAR
The Blue Train has added an Observation Car to its second train set, which allows guests to enjoy the expansive view from the wide panels at the back of the train.The Observation Car can also be converted into a conference room for business meetings and smaller events. The car also features a dedicated Boutique Shop that sells The Blue Train mementos.
SWIMMING POOL REFURBISHMENT AT ILALA LODGE HOTEL
As part of the ongoing enhancements of the hotel, the swimming pool area in 2019 will be resurfaced. Modification of the area will include resurfacing the deck surrounding the current swimming pool and building an adjoining plunge pool. Our swimming pool and poolside seating area will be closed from the 14 January – 28 February 2019. Renovation works will take place between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Saturday and guests will be accommodated in rooms away from the refurbishment works.
AIR BOTSWANA ROUTE EXTENSION
Air Botswana confirms Cape Town – Gabarone flight route, starting from 5 Decemeber 2018. Operating days are Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flight BP246 will depart from Cape Town at 04:00pm, arriving in Gabarone at 06:00pm. Flight BP255 will depart from Gabarone at 04:00pm, arriving in Cape Town at 06:00pm.
