It all began beneath the shade of a baobab tree, in 1986, where a young biologist, Søren Rasmussen, captivated by Africa’s untamed beauty, dreamt of a life immersed in the wild. That dream became Albatros, a flourishing tree of companies rooted in purpose and powered by a deep reverence for nature.
Today, Albatros Africa is much more than a travel company. From intimate safari lodges in South Africa to expeditions across the Arctic and Greenland, and even marathons along the Great Wall of China, we craft experiences that traverse some of the most enigmatic corners of the planet. What unites them is a singular mission: to rekindle the bond between people and the natural world.
Our journeys are built on a philosophy of conservation and connection. We strive to inspire awareness, understanding, and a lasting passion for protecting the fragile ecosystems in Africa, Antarctica and all places we operate.
We were one of the first safaris (if not the first) where protection of wildlife is at the centre of what we do. At Albatros, conservation is not just a value; it is a core pillar of our identity.
From daily conservation talks at our flagship Conservation Lodge to the protection of endangered species and the rewilding of our landscapes with indigenous flora, our initiatives are growing. We open our parks to students from nearby communities, nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards. Every step forward is an invitation to experience wonder and to protect it.
Albatros Africa invites you to travel differently. To travel with meaning.
At Albatros Travel Africa we have been bringing people to this amazing continent since 1986, and have grown from a small travel agency in Copenhagen to a much larger company with offices on four continents – but we still see Africa as the place that inspired us from the beginning – and we would love to share our awe of Africa with you.
We offer scheduled and tailor-made tours to countries in southern and eastern Africa. What this means is that you can either purchase one of our ready-made tour packages that commences on a given date or you can contact us with your travel ideas and let us do the rest. You might, for example, have a rough idea that you would like take your family to visit Cape Town and the Garden Route, go on a Safari in Namibia and finish off exploring Kruger in your own vehicle. Along the way you want to go whale watching and hot air ballooning, but you’re not sure where.
We will then use our travel expertise and extensive regional networks to put together a flexible itinerary for you, possibly making suggestions for other sights or features we think you might also enjoy. We’ve been doing this for 26 years and we love the creative challenge – so you can rest assured that we’ll do our best to make your travel dreams come true. You can change elements of it as you wish until you’re happy with the result.
Travel with a private driver/guide you’ll do what you want when you want with the freedom to change your plans on the fly.
With deep in-country knowledge, our destination experts tailor each experience to your preference, ensuring you make the most of your time away.
